Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) remains one of the most influential painters in the history of art. His expressive brushstrokes and bold use of colour helped shape the rise of Expressionism in modern painting. Over the course of a decade, Van Gogh created more than 2,100 artworks, many of them completed during the final two years of his life.

Reproduced on our cover is Still Life (Nature Morte), it was painted in May 1888, just a few months after Van Gogh moved to the small village of Arles in the south of France. Several artworks from this period feature the same objects seen here, such as the blue majolica vase filled with vibrant blue and yellow flowers and the delicate white teacup. These recurring motifs are from one of the most creative and emotional periods of his life.

When developing this design, our Graphics team was drawn to the warm gold tones of the background which is perfectly highlighted by our signature gold foil. The vivid blue flowers come alive on our metallic paper that is framed by Van Gogh’s iconic orange border. We felt this style captured the beauty and essence of this timeless painting with our signature Paperblanks touch.

We are honoured to once again partner with the Barnes Foundation in bringing another masterpiece to life through our Paperblanks journals. Following our 2024 release of Cezanne’s Terracotta Pots and Flowers, this collaboration continues our shared passion for art preservation and education. Based in Philadelphia, the Barnes Foundation houses one of the world’s most celebrated collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, making it the perfect partner for this collection.

Van Gogh’s Still Life is available as a hardcover journal, canvas bag, pencil, and 500-piece jigsaw puzzle.
