Today, we ventured onto the grounds of Basgiath War College to speak with cadet and dragon rider Violet Sorrengail about the items she simply can’t live without.
I asked Violet what her day-to-day looks like. She noted how every day is a different challenge waiting to be taken on. She spends her days attending classes on the history of Navarre and flight field, trying to become the best dragon rider she can be. She is always protecting Navarre, day and night, defending her home from the growing threat of Venin and Wyvern attacks, the greatest danger to the kingdom.
When I asked Violet what items she couldn’t live without, she said there are a number of things you need to be a cadet at Basgiath College. First is her dagger, which she always keeps on hand for self-defence, especially in the brutal environment of Basgiath. Whether it be for deadly challenges or fending off Venin attacks, Violet relies on this trusty companion in close combat, or as a backup to her signet powers. You’ve always got to expect the unexpected.
To be the best cadet, you must know the Codex. Violet keeps this historical book close by when she is studying, as it contains all the knowledge about dragons, magic, and most importantly, Navarre’s history. A scribe at heart, Violet often turns to the text for the answers she seeks. The Codex is a key to discovering secrets hidden within Navarre and insight into their enemies. Whether it is dragon lore, battle strategies, or magical theory, the knowledge gives her an intellectual edge over physically stronger opponents, making her one of the best cadets in Navarre.

In case of any injuries on the battlefield, Violet uses her collection of herbs for medicine that helps with treating wounds, relieving chronic pain, and occasionally creating poisons or antidotes. She is learning about herbal properties during her time at Basgiath and uses this knowledge to craft potions that subtly influence training outcomes or battlefield conditions.
To write down her latest tactics or secret missives to allies, Violet uses her Paperblanks Shadows of Navarre journal to help her in her studies. She channels her inner scribe through her journal, preparing for the next challenge or uncovering secret messages hidden within coded texts.
