Taking inspiration from the decadent leather bindings of the Renaissance, this Foiled cover design expands our classic Old Leather Collection with a new softcover journal format!
Our Foiled design’s rich shade of red perfectly complements the intricate gold-tooled embellishments that border the cover. This design pays homage to the craft of gold tooling that was originally brought to Europe by the flourishing trade routes to the East.

Our Embellished Manuscripts Collection originally celebrating the literary greats such as Jane Austen and William Shakespeare, with their writing providing inspiration for the designs on our journals. Over time, we decided to get even more creative, reimagining these covers and exploring with designs that weren’t inherently associated with a specific person but rather of the decorative arts of an era.
Our Artistic Director worked from a photograph in curating the beautiful gold border for a William Shakespeare manuscript page and realized that when the text was removed, it opened a whole new possibility to create a classic Renaissance-inspired design.
With the Renaissance being a time of rebirth, using it for inspiration felt like the perfect way to repurpose and revive an existing design. And thus, our foundational Old Leather Collection was born, with the intricately ornamented Foiled design being among the first covers.

We are incredibly lucky to be able to reimagine and adapt old designs to give them new meanings.
Old Leather Foiled is available as a softcover journal, bookmark, document folder, and pencil case.
