Take a walk down memory lane with The Famous Five!
English author Enid Blyton (1897–1968) wrote many books and short stories that captured an idyllic childhood full of adventure in the countryside, her most popular series among them being The Famous Five.
The Famous Five follows the adventures of a group of four cousins – Julian, Dick, Anne and, George – and George’s dog, Timmy.
For this special series release we’ve reproduced the illustrations from the covers of two books in the series, Five on a Treasure Island and Five on Finniston Farm. Whether it’s shipwrecks or lost treasure, each time the five meet, a whirlwind of summer adventures ensues.
These classic images are the works of Eileen Soper (1905–1990), whose illustrations bring the wonderfully nostalgic quality of Blyton’s stories to life.
Developing this release was a joy for our talented Graphics team, who delighted in harnessing the freedom of childhood summer adventures and translating this to a Paperblanks cover design.
“With its worn-out and vintage look, this design brings us back to childhood, to endless hours of explorations among friends. It invokes the power of friendship and the curiosity of knowing the whole wide world, seen through the eyes of enthusiastic children. The marine scene represented captures this spirit at its best.” – Adina, Graphic Artist
The image on the back cover is set atop a letter penned by Blyton to Paul Hodder-Williams in 1966. We’re delighted to work with Hodder & Stoughton, one of Britain’s leading publishers, on this special design that celebrates the nostalgic charm of Blyton’s work.
Join us in celebrating Enid Blyton’s legacy with this commemorative design.
The Famous Five is available as a softcover Flexis notebook, bookmark and a canvas bag.
