We are deep into October and with it the yearly online creative challenge, Inktober. If you feel you arrived late to the party, know you are probably not the only one. Don’t let the fact that the challenge has already started discourage you from participating in it. Even if you join for only one day, you are already doing something fun to boost your creativity.
What Is #Inktober?
You’ve probably seen this hashtag all over social media underneath photos of sketchbooks with beautiful artwork in ink. But what exactly is #Inktober and how did it start?
Arizona-based illustrator Jake Parker created the online art challenge Inktober in 2009 as a way to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. Since then, Inktober has grown into a worldwide endeavour with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. With only one word as a prompt, anybody can join at any time and share their work. You can find the official 2021 prompt list here.
There’s Also #Facetober
Another fun challenge happening during this month is #Facetober. Created by greeting card designer and freelance illustrator Charly Clements, the Facetober challenge focuses only on faces. Prompted by three words, you create a character that has those three features, using any medium you want.
