Did you know that Museum Store Sunday is this weekend? The annual event is celebrating its second year with hundreds of non-profit retailers around the world joining together to celebrate the role that these types of shops play in funding their home institutions.
By visiting the gift shop at your favourite museum, aquarium, botanical garden or historic site, you can help contribute to keeping the doors open. And to help encourage you to visit this Sunday, many shops will be offering special discounts, giveaways and interactive activities.
Museum stores are a part of the larger Paperblanks community in more ways than one – not only are our products available in many institutions’ shops, but much of our original artwork comes from a museum!
If you’re planning a visit to a museum this Museum Store Sunday – or any day! – then be sure to keep your eyes open to spot these Paperblanks designs in their original homes.

Klimt’s 100th Anniversary, Portrait of Adele in the United States
Gustav Klimt’s famous Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I has been on quite the adventure since he completed it in 1907. It was among many works stolen from Jewish owners during World War II and was only returned to the Bloch-Bauer estate in 2006. Since then it has been exhibited around the United States, including the Neue Galerie in New York City, where it can be appreciated today. Learn more here.
L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Centre in Canada
The setting of Prince Edward Island is so foundational to Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables stories that it only makes sense that her original manuscript would be on display at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, PEI. Learn more about the centre’s history, events and exhibitions on its website here.
Still Life Burst Van Huysum at the National Gallery of Art in the USA

Leonardo’s Sketches Sun & Moonlight at the Uffizi Gallery in Italy
Our Sun & Moonlight design takes a sketch and set of notations from the Codex Leicester, a famous collection of scientific writings by Leonardo da Vinci. The Codex has travelled the world since Leonardo first composed it, and this marks its second visit to Florence. It is currently on display at the Uffizi Gallery. More information can be found on the official website for the exhibition.
Of course, there are many other places you could go to visit a Paperblanks design in real life – but the original artworks aren’t always on permanent display. Visit the product pages on our new website to learn more about each design’s history and find out where the art comes from.
