Faye's wedding (2)

When we say that “we believe that art should have a place in all aspects of life,” we aren’t exaggerating. A passion for creativity, especially for the book arts, is something shared by all members of the Paperblanks family, even when we’re away from work.

So when Faye, a team member in our Vancouver office, got married last winter it was natural that books, origami and our Paperblanks®  designs would play a role in her wedding. We couldn’t help but be inspired by the creative ways she incorporated these elements into her big day, and we’re so pleased that Faye and her new husband Ian have offered to share their innovative wedding style with the Endpaper Blog.

This is How a Paperblanks Team Member Gets Married

The Engagement Dinner

We held an engagement dinner during the summer since most of my extended family was in town for a family reunion (so they wouldn’t have to fly back again in January). We had the dinner at Edible Canada on Vancouver’s Granville Island. We chose this restaurant because they focus on promoting local food and use Canadian products as much as possible, which was nice because most of the guests were from out of town. And the food was delicious!

Engagement -Botan micro

We used the Ukiyo-E Kimono Patterns Botan Micro journals as placeholders for the table setting; plus they doubled as thank you gifts for each person. I also added a bellyband [what we call a journal’s centre label] with each guest’s name on it and wrapped it around the journal.

The Wedding Day

We kept our wedding quite small with thirty-five guests. It was held at the Blue Water Café (in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood) in one of their amazing private dining rooms. Continuing with the “do-most-of-it-yourself” and “I-love-crafts” themes, we combined our wedding details and RSVPs into one cool folded invitation design, and then made place cards and drink tickets to match.

We chose the Black Moroccan Guest Book to use for our wedding because we had a winter/birch tree kind of theme. We added our names and wedding date on the front cover. It ended up filled with instant photos by the end of the night!

The Honeymoon

We decided to take off to sunny St Maarten in the Caribbean. Both of us speak French, so we thought this French/Dutch island would be a great place to visit. Given the tropical destination I, of course, brought one of our more colourful Aloha journals along for the ride.

And we had to don our Canadian toques at least once even though it was over 30 degrees Celsius!
